Welcome
to another edition of "Creatively Yours"
the newsletter from Creative Travel India
Dear Industry Colleagues :
The last WTM was an eye opener for all of us that were there.
The event was festive yet somber. I think there is a lot of
concern on how business is going to fare in general in the
coming months. We in India were sheltered from the travel
industry meltdown, given that we were sitting on reservations
from the last booking cycle. But come January, we do expect a
steep decline in arrivals.
A fundamental question arises on what do we do? We as a
company have been having conversations with our hotel
partners. We do wish they had been more proactive a few months
ago, but nevertheless we do sense a shared degree of urgency
in trying to get some packages out that can stimulate demand
for the destination.
If you would
like to know more about our "Beat The Recession Blues"
packages, do let us know and we will be delighted to send you
some options.
We
at Creative Travel and our
specialist brands - "Signature Tours", the luxury travel specialist
and "Plan it!", the finest conference management team in India are
proud to offer the best of India and her neighboring countries to the
discerning traveler. With a 30 year award winning history behind us, we
look forward to the opportunity of showing you what true destination
management is all about.
To read more about us, you
can download a copy of our company profile at - http://www.travel2india.com/who-we-are.htm
We appreciate the support our
partners all over the world have shown us. It is with your partnership
that Creative is where it is today. For those of you with whom we have
not had the pleasure of working with, all I can say is try us and see
the Creative magic for yourself.
Through "Creatively Yours" we
hope to keep you informed on the latest news in Team Creative and the
destination. We hope you find this to be useful.
Have a Creative Day !

Heritage status
will give fresh life to Kalka Shimla railway
With UNESCO declaring the Kalka-Shimla railway line as a World Heritage
Site, people here hope the narrow-gauge line that is over a century old
will get a fresh lease of life. The railway meanders through the hills
between Kalka and Shimla, going through 102 tunnels, crossing 800 bridges
and turning at over 900 curves in the 96-km journey. It was built in 1898
during British rule to connect the then summer capital of India, Shimla,
with other parts of the country. The two foot six inch narrow-gauge
railway line that ascends a height of over 4,000 feet was officially
opened for traffic Nov 9, 1903. The inscription plaque of the Kalka-Shimla Railway as a ’World
Heritage Site’ at the Kalka railway station was officially laid at a
ceremony earlier this month. |

Nilgiri Queen
turns 100
As the Nilgiris Queen chugged into the mist-covered Udhagamandalam station
earlier this month, the heritage hill train completed 100 years of its
majestic journey. On its centenary, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR),
also called the Nilgiri's Queen, the lone rack and pinion railway in
India, ran on a steam engine for the first time after 14 years. One of the
oldest mountain railways in the country, the NMR, traversing a 46-km-long
metre gauge stretch and scaling an elevation of up to 2,203 metres, was
first proposed in 1854 and completed in 1908. Three years ago, NMR was
accorded the world heritage status by UNESCO. |

heritage properties, which include a 20 million-year-old "kal maram"
(fossil). The Botanical Garden, maintained by the State Horticulture
Department, has applied for the global status. Backing the global

Magnetic Hill
draws visitors to Ladakh
You may not believe that a vehicle with its ignition off can move, but in
Ladakh seeing is believing. Not only do vehicles move without the engine
being turned on, they even defy gravity by climbing uphill. A hill on the
outskirts of Ladakh, a picturesque cold desert town is so full of
magnetised iron that it has the power to pull any vehicle in its vicinity
towards itself. The hill situated on the Leh-Kargil-Batalik national
highway and is bordered by the Indus river, which originates in Tibet and
flows through Ladakh on its way to Pakistan. Skeptical tourists are amazed
to see their vehicles climbing uphill at a speed of 10 km per hour when in
neutral gear. |

Sri Lanka poised
to become a global hotspot for whale watching
Sri Lanka has the potential to become one of the global hot spots for
whale watching as it is among the easiest places in the world to watch
blue and sperm whales according to researchers, marine biologists and
eco-tourism specialists. Sri Lanka is situated within the International
Whaling Commission's protected zone in the Indian Ocean. Of the 80 species
of cetaceans observed and identified worldwide, 26 are found in the Indian
Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. Whale and dolphin watching is a seasonal
activity in Sri Lanka, available on the west coast in locations from
Kalpitiya and along the South West Coast from November to March while the
east coast of Trincomalee is preferable from June to September. The Whale
and Dolphin Conservation Society estimates that ten million people go
whale watching every year. Sri Lanka has the potential to attract several
thousand whale watchers on bespoke tours or even to take one off
excursions. High concentration of both blue whales and sperm whales within
easy reach under tropical conditions puts Sri Lanka on top of the world's
whale watching map. |
