Dear Industry Colleagues :
Happy New Year !! Now is a
time for new beginnings.
For us in the Creative Travel family, 2013 brings
in our 36th year of being amongst India’s most respected travel
companies. The end of the year past saw positive trends for our
business and we look at 2013 as heralding exciting new opportunities
for our team. The resilience of our team members has been strong and
we will close the year with a healthy growth. We also made a
significant move for the future with an acquisition of a 35,000 sq.ft building where the entire Creative family will move towards
the third quarter of 2013. Our new home will be state of the art,
funky and will express every feeling that makes us creative.
2012 also saw our efforts being recognized at the global level. In
early 2012, we were awarded India's #1 National Tourism Award in our
category by the President of India. On October 18th of this year, at
a glittering ceremony of the 2012 World Travel Awards Ceremony in
Singapore, we were proud to have been awarded "Asia's Leading
Destination Management Company" and "India's Leading
Destination Management Company" (which we also won in 2011).
World Travel Awards was described by the Wall Street Journal as "the
Oscars of the Travel Industry". Today, the WTA brand is
recognized
globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting
the benchmark to which all others aspire.
We are indeed very, very proud of our team because they make this
all possible. We are a family. A family of the Kohlis, a family of
our employees, a family of our partners & well wishers around the
world.
Living and working in India is an amazing experience. 2012 brought
this nation face to face with a new form of citizen protests, of the
educated urban communities. Something Indian polity had not seen
before. This nation has seen a new awakening of support in issues
from corruption to women's rights. India is not a country, its a
continent. Our passion for life is expressed in many forms - from
our movies to our foods; from our cricket to our rituals; from our
textiles to our politics. We always had the opportunity to live
anywhere in the world we wanted to, but as they say, home is where
the heart is, and our heart will always be in India.
We want to share the new Incredible India video which says it all.
India is that place where you will find what you see
http://youtu.be/Qd22ESWXeY4
So wherever you are and whatever your heart desires, on behalf of
the Kohli family and the entire team at Creative Travel; Plan it!
Meetings & Conferences, The Creative Academy of Tourism &
JungleSutra Wildlife Journeys, we wish you and your loved ones a
great and joyful 2013.
Take Care

Annual Chaat Party 2013
Every year, in January, we have our famous "Chaat Party". This is when
we call our friends from the hotels and airlines just to say thank you
over an afternoon of mouth watering feast. It is also an opportunity for
our team to meet the people they speak to on the phones throughout the
year. After all, its good to put a face behind a name. This year we had
over 500 guests. It seems the popularity of the party keeps on growing
every year.
For those unfamiliar with the Indian passion that is "Chaat",
here are the links to read up on it -

India planning to boost faith tourism
Multicultural India is planning to pitch faith tourism by developing
more religious tourist circuits to attract foreign footfalls and
encourage greater domestic traveling that has seen double digit
growth in recent years benefiting the local economy. Faith tourism
is "recession-proof" and, realizing this, the government is making
efforts to promote pilgrimage tourism from ASEAN countries to
Buddhist centres and opening a Jewish centre in Kochi. "We have to
have a proactive approach for developing these centres," said
Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan told IANS.
Other circuits could be the 22 Sufi centres and the British-era war
cemeteries in the country. There are also plans to connect pilgrimage
centres in the North with those in the South. The government has
appointed a national level consultant to identify the spiritual
tourism circuits. Tourism minister K. Cheeranjeevi told Parliament
last month that while identifying and developing the circuits,
efforts would be made to plug infrastructure gaps and provide
necessary amenities to tourists. |

Buddhist tourism in India getting
boost with new luxury tourist shuttle
The Buddhist tourism circuit in India is getting a new fillip with
the luxury tourist shuttle, the Mahaparinirvana Express, expanding
its run to touch Buddhist sites in Odisha from Jan 20 besides those
in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The move is to meet the growing demand by pilgrims, especially from
countries like Sri Lanka in South Asia as well East and Southeast
Asia, to visit more places associated with the Buddha - Bhubaneswar,
Lalitagiri, Khandagiri and Udayagiri.
"The train that begins from Safdarjung in the capital now goes to
Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Varanasi, Sarnath, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar,
Lumbini and Sravasti in a seven-night, eight-day odyssey,"
Harshvardhan Singh Rawat, an official at the Indian Railway Catering
and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), told IANS.
Speaking on the margins of the Confederation of India Industry
Roundtable on Indian Tourism, the IRCTC official said the government
was reconsidering resuming the Chennai Buddhist shuttle that stopped
in March this year."We will soon put the train from Chennai back on
track to cater to the surge of Buddhist pilgrims from Sri Lanka. We
are working out the cost of the 21-day, 20-night trip that covers
many more places than the Delhi train," the official said.
The Mahaparinirvana Express, on an average, clocks 60 percent
occupancy with the bulk of tourists from China, Thailand, Taiwan and
other countries in the region. The official said tourists from at
least 30 countries opt for train tourism in the Buddhist circuits. |

AirAsia eyes India
AirAsia has ordered 475 Airbus A320s. AirAsia is looking to expand
into new markets, and has cited India as one of the most attractive
options. Following a strategic review of the its operations and
future growth plans, AirAsia’s Group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said he
believed India offered the most potential for expansion.
“India is an exciting market and I have been overwhelmed with the
developments of the country recently in terms of promoting air
travel. We will continue to explore opportunities there but I
believe this market offers the most growth potential in terms of
travel," Fernandes said.
The Indian market would certainly meet AirAsia’s main criteria of
targeting markets with large domestic populations. It has already
established subsidiaries in many of Southeast Asia’s largest
markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the
Philippines. In 2011 it was also thwarted in its attempts to
establish a Vietnamese subsidiary. Last year the launch of AirAsia
Japan, in partnership with ANA, marked AirAsia’s first venture
outside the ASEAN region.
AirAsia has plenty of scope for expansion, however. The group has
placed orders for 475 Airbus A320 aircraft, of which just 114 have
so far been delivered. Fernandes said that India and China would
play a huge part of AirAsia’s future growth. “ASEAN, including China
and India… has over 3.2 billion population which is eight times
bigger than Europe," he said. “We see the potential of these markets
hence why I am confident our huge aircraft orders will easily meet
our capacity needs in the future.' |

Etihad/Jet Airways deal could be
signed within January,13
Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways will fi nalise a deal to buy a stake in
Jet Airways on Friday, according to reports. It is thought the
carrier could pay up to US $330 million for a 24% stake in Jet,
India’s second-biggest carrier. Speculation has been mounting that
the Gulf carrier will invest in the
loss-making Jet andin September last year, the Indian government
relaxed restrictions regarding
foreign investment in its airlines, allowing carriers to buy stakes
of up to 49 per cent in the country’s airlines. Etihad and Jet
already have a code-sharing agreement and a tie-up is predicted to
mount a formidable challenge to state-owned Air India. |
