Welcome to another edition of "Creatively Yours"
the newsletter from Creative Travel India
|
|
Dear Industry
Colleagues:
Here is another edition of the award winning "Creatively Yours".
What I love about India is that it is probably one of the few
countries in the world where you can have a flood and a draught on
the same day. That shows the expanse of the nation. Delhi has never
seen so much rain in 10 years. Things are wet, but the trees are
full of life. The rains do bring in an amazing transformation of the
region.
The office is buzzing again. Requests are flowing in from all over
the world and the mood in the Indian travel industry is buoyant. Of
course, some countries are picking up slower than others, but
overall things look a lot better than they did 6 months ago.
We received another small acknowledgement from our partners Taj
Hotels, Resorts & Palaces. Another reminder of the wonderful work
our team does. A few weeks ago we also had the privilege of
welcoming the 15 most beautiful young women from Hong Kong when the
Miss Hong Kong pageant came to India for a outport shoot. A fun
project for all those involved.
Our product development team is busy creating different tours for
all our partners all over the world. If you would like to see how
can we add some magic to what you do, let us know. We after all take
pride in our ability to make a trip to the Indian sub-continent
something very different.

Location: Mumbai
Ganeshotsav is a ten day festival dedicated to Ganesha Ganesha, the
elephant-headed god. In a Hindu household tradition dictates that
all activities whether religious or otherwise are incomplete if not
begun with a prayer to Ganesha, the god of wisdom, prosperity and
good fortune. This festival starts on the fourth day of the waxing
moon in the lunar month of Badharpaada when Ganesha is invited and
his presence marked by an idol specially made for the occasion. On
the 11th day he is given a resounding farewell procession and his
departure is symbolized with an immersion in the nearest water body

Jantar-Mantar now on UNESCO's World
Heritage site
Jantar Mantar, Jaipur’s celebrated astronomical observatory built in
early 18th century, has been granted World Heritage status by
UNESCO. The decision was taken in UNESCO's World Heritage Committee
meeting in Brasilia. This is India's 28th and Rajasthan's second
site (after Keoladev National Park) which has been given this
status.
The ancient observatory, built by the Maharaja Jai Singh II at his
then new capital of Jaipur between 1727 and 1734, was among the
seven sites in the world which have been added to UNESCO's World
Heritage list this year. The observatory has religious significance
and ancient Indian astronomers used it to understand the celestial
phenomenon. It consists of fourteen major geometric devices for
measuring time, predicting eclipses, tracking stars' location as the
earth orbits around the sun, ascertaining the declinations of
planets, and determining the celestial altitudes.

NTY 2011 generates optimism in hotel
business
Nepal Tourism Year 2011 is providing all necessary impetus to the
country’s hotel industry. Hotels, which were closed, are being
revived. Their standards are being revisited to satisfy the Ministry
of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) guidelines. New hotels’
registration is up in anticipation of a boom time. And, foreign
investments in the hotel sector are standing out at a time when the
economy has not seen much FDI flow in recent times. |

Boating on Mahaweli waters
The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources in a recent
initiative is opening the waters of the Mahaweli reservoirs for
pleasure boat riding. Boat rides are to be operated on the Victoria,
Kotmale, Randenigala and Maduru – Oya reservoirs. Initially, the
Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL) would operate these boat
rides from the Randenigala reservoir, and go on to expand to rides
on the other reservoirs too. While the delightful boat rides, on
pleasing waters with a panoramic view of the hill country, will be
the main attraction of this initiative, the proximity of the
Randenigala- Victoria wild life sanctuary and Maduru- oya wild life
sanctuaries are additions that nature loving tourists can look
forward to on a boating tour. |

Hotels see bounce-back in room
occupancies, rates
After dismal years in 2008-09, the country's hotel industry could be
in for happier times, going by the optimism displayed by the
country's largest hotel company, The Indian Hotels Company Ltd.
According to Mr Ajoy K Misra, Sr Vice-President, sales and
marketing, in the first quarter of this fiscal occupancy on an
average in its hotels have gone up by 10 percentage points. As this
month and next are the off season, he expects room rates also to go
up come September. Asked if the fresh supply of rooms from new
hotels coming up all over the country could depress room rates
further, Mr Misra said the strong growth can absorb room capacity. A
10-20 per cent addition in capacity would not make the demand-supply
gap significant, he added. “India has 45,000 star classified rooms
while it needs 90,000 rooms in the next five years,” he added.

Runway at Chhatrapati
Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai to be closed for a few hours
daily. Upgradation and recarpeting work likely to start from October
2010
Passenger inconvenience is likely to be the norm this winter as the
main runway at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai
is expected to be closed for a few hours every day for repair. The
airport operates two runways, but needs to upgrade and recarpet the
main runway 0927. The upgradation of the runway is likely to start
in October 2010 and result in increased congestion and flight
delays. It could also lead to ‘load penalty’, which means airlines
will not be able to carry complete load on some flights as the
secondary runway 14/27 is shorter. The main runway is 11,300-feet
long whereas the secondary runway 9,600-feet. The secondary runway
has been recarpeted and was closed between October and March last
fiscal. |

Private airlines in Nepal likely to start operations to Varanasi,
Dehradun and Lucknow
Private airlines in Nepal will soon begin operating flights from
Kathmandu to Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand. Speaking on the
sidelines of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised
programme on ‘Trade and Investment Opportunities in Nepal’ recently
held in Ahmedabad, Rukma Shumsher Rana, Ambassador of Nepal to India
said, “The air agreement signed between Nepal and India in the
recent past has opened access to 42 small airports for us. The
embassy will also pursue the Government of Nepal to start flights
between Nepal and Ahmedabad, in order to boost tourism.” He added
that previously, Nepal had restricted air connectivity in India
which was confined to airports of Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi.
But now private airlines in Nepal are likely to start operations to
Varanasi, Dehradun and Lucknow. The air connectivity to Dehradun
from Kathmandu will be covering Badrinath shrine which will help
boost tourism in the religious circuit. |
