Royal Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the jewel in India’s crown. It’s the forts and palaces that grab your attention. Massive forts emerge from mountain tops, their battle-scarred ramparts still defying long-dead enemies. Spiked doors that once held war elephants at bay open onto the twisting approaches to the palaces within. Austere and practical gives way to fantasy and opulence once safely inside. Carved marble and stone, fountains and coloured glass decorate the halls of business and rooms of pleasure. Rajasthan is literally the Land of the Kings. It is home to the chivalrous Rajputs, and its battle-scarred heritage has bestowed legacies of pride and tradition. The upper echelons of this medieval society built magnificent palaces and forts, many of which are now glorious hotels and museums. In addition, stunning handicrafts and fine arts were developed and nurtured through patronage by the maharajas. Village life remains steeped in tradition but, just like the rest of India, the pace of change is accelerating. Turbaned men still barter for decorated camels – they just relay the successful deal home via a smart phone.

Day 1 Delhi
Arrive in Delhi this day. A special welcome awaits you. Check in to your chosen hotel.

Day 2 Delhi
Start the day with your expert guide giving you an overview of Delhi. Begin your tour with exploring the old city of Shajahanabad Old Delhi & enjoy the rickshaw ride in the narrow lanes of Old Delhi. You can also as an optional experience enjoy a Heritage walk of Old Delhi followed by lunch at Indian house. In the afternoon explore New Delhi along with the fascinating monuments Humayun’s tomb & Qutub Minar and other regal government buildings.

Day 3 Delhi to Agra(bysurface)
After breakfast drive on to Agra, the city of the Taj. This afternoon explore Agra fort.

Day 4 Agra to Jaipur(bySurface)
Visit Taj Mahal at sunrise. After breakfast, drive on to Jaipur. En-route visit Fatehpur Sikri. Continue to Jaipur, the famed Pink City. You will have some time free to relax or explore a bit of the town. An optional experience available is an evening visit to an Indian home where you get to interact with the family over a traditional meal. Another optional is to see an Indian movie with the locals at the famed Raj Mandir theatre.(Taj Mahal remains close on friday)

Day 5 Jaipur
This morning explore the magnificent Amber fort. Afternoon at leisure for more explorations.

Day 6 Jaipur
Morning explore more of Jaipur including the city palace complex, Observatory and the old city leading to an insight into the textiles and jewellery making crafts that the city is famous for.

Day 7 Udaipur
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Udaipur. Known as a city of the lakes, Udaipur is where the royals used to relax. On arrival check-in at your hotel for some time at leisure.

Day 8 Udaipur
This morning visit the Udaipur City Palace follows and Jagdish Temple. Afternoon enjoy a boat ride on Lake Pichola with a visit to Jagmandir Island.

Day 9 Jodhpur
After breakfast drive on to Jodhpur, the majestic Blue City. En-route visit the famed Ranakpur Temples. On arrival you have time at leisure or to explore the old town markets.

Day 10 Jodhpur
Early this morning visit the local Bishnoi villages on an excursion. Follow this by a visit to the awe inspiring Mehrangarh Fort. In the after noon you can opt for an optional heritage walk of old Jodhpur.

Day 11 Departure
Today fly back to Delhi where you may have some time free for last minute shopping. Transfer to the international airport for your return flight home.
