Jet Airways to launch Chennai-Paris flights |
|
Jet Airways on Wednesday announced that it would launch daily direct flights from Chennai to Paris and Bengaluru to Amsterdam starting October 29.
The new flight -- Jet Airways 9W128 -- from Chennai will depart at 1.45am and arrive in Paris at 8.10am local time. In the return direction, 9W 127 will depart from Paris at 10.10am and arrive in Chennai at 12.15am.
The airline has opened a five-day sale of tickets for the Paris flight at an all-inclusive introductory fare of Rs 33,999 for economy and Rs 1,29,000 for premier class for the new flight.
The new service is being planned to capitalise on the growing demand for outbound leisure and business travel and also to tap the inbound tourists from Europe to the southern region of India through Chennai.
There is also an industry connection due to the presence of companies like BNB Paribas, Michelin and Renault in Chennai.
Jet Airways 9W236 from Bengaluru will depart at 2.25am and arrive in Amsterdam at 8.35am local time. In the return direction, the flight 9W 235 will depart from Amsterdam at 10.50am and arrive in Bengaluru at 12.40am.
Jet Airways vice-president (sales) Praveen Iyer said, "Travellers flying the new routes will benefit a one-stop connectivity to 35 destinations across Europe and 24 destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico with codeshare partners Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Delta Airlines."
The new flights also offer travellers the option of flying to Europe and the US through European gateway airports. "Travellers will be able to fly in through one gateway and return through another while visiting Europe," he added. |

Sri Lankan Airlines expands India operations |
|
Focusing on India as a special market, Sri Lankan Airlines is ready to start its services to three new destinations, besides launching additional frequencies and improving connectivity in the country.
“We are adding Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore by July when we take the delivery of the new Airbus fleet A320 Neo and A321 Neo. The flight frequency to the existing 12 cities will also be increased to 128 in a week from the present 107. We will also increase the existing frequencies to Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi,” says Siva Ramachandran, Chief Commercial Officer, Sri Lankan Airlines.
India is specifically an important market and the company is strategically expanding its reach in the region. The overall load factor on some Indian routes is still running close to 80 per cent while some witnessed more than that.
“We are also looking at adding Ahmedabad as a new destination by 2018-19, considering the industry growth and frequency of travel from the region,” he told BusinessLine in an interaction.
The airline company, according to him, intends to reduce its dependence on the Gulf sector on account of dwindling revenues and would like to focus more on Far East, South Asia and South East Asian destinations. “What is critical for the business today is cutting low yields and looking for high-yield passengers both tourists as well as business traffic”, he said. |

Air India to establish a new
direct air route between Copenhagen
and New Delhi |
|
As a result of meetings between Air
India and Danish ministers and
ambassadors, a direct flight between
Copenhagen and New Delhi will now
become a reality.
India is one of the
fastest-growing members of the G20
economic group and will soon have
the world’s highest population, so
is a country which Denmark has a
great strategic interest in
co-operating with.
“A direct route to New Delhi will
mean a great deal to Danish
companies in India and provide
opportunities for increased trade
between the countries. It will also
give tourists a quicker and much
more pleasant journey,” said Ole
Birk Olesen, the minister for
transport, housing and building. |

Unexploited export potential |
|
The foreign minister, Anders
Samuelsen added that “Both
politically and economically, India
is an essential country in Asia that
at the same time can offer great
unexploited export potential for
Danish companies, know-how and
technology.”
The route is expected to start up
on September 16 and it will be
possible to fly from Copenhagen to
New Delhi three times per week. |
