MoCA issues licenses to five
airlines under Udan scheme |
|
As per the India today report, the
Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA)
under Udan Regional Connectivity
Scheme issued licenses to five
airlines to start operations to 13
airports in Tier-II cities that had
to wait for days to see a flight
touchdown or take off. RN Choubey,
Secretary, Ministry for Civil
Aviation, Government of India said,
"Air India has got 15 routes, Spice
Jet has got 11, Turbo 18, Air Deccan
34 and Air Odisha has got 50
routes.” Apart from the 13 lesser
known airports, 43 airports too will
be part of this project.
Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Minister of
Civil Aviation, Government of India
said, "Within 4-6 months, all these
new regional flights will become
operational. UDAN will have a
positive effect on the economy, in
terms of employment and investment,"
he added.
Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for
Civil Aviation, Government of India
said, “INR 205 crore will be needed
for subsidy to implement this.”
Interestingly, nearly 50% of the
seats on Udan flights will cost INR
2,500 and the subsidy will be borne
by passengers from whom a nominal
amount will be charged every time
they fly.
Some of the routes under Udan
flights will cover are Bhatinda-Delhi,
Gwalior-Indore, Gwalior-Lucknow,
Pathankot-Delhi, Agra-Jaipur,
Diu-Surat, Jamnagar-Ahmedabad,
Kanpur-Varanasi, Pondicherry-
Chennai and Bilaspur-Raipur. |

Air India announces two new
international flights for 2017 |
|
Air India has announced two new
international flights for 2017, with
the first being between India and
Israel beginning from May 2017. The
airline plans to open the New
Delhi-Tel Aviv route with three
weekly flights.
Talking about the commencement of
the new flight, Ashwani Lohani, CMD,
Air India, said, “Air India is
looking forward to the opening of
the direct route to Israel in a few
months’ time. I believe that this
will have a positive effect on the
tourism traffic between our two
countries.”
Hassan Madah, Director, Israel
Ministry of Tourism in India, said,
“We are very happy with the growth
in Indian travellers to Israel. In
2016, there were 44,672 Indian
tourists that travelled to Israel,
setting a new record for the highest
number of travellers from India.
With Air India commencing operations
directly to Israel, we are confident
of an increased influx of arrivals
to Israel in 2017.”
Air India is also slated to begin
operation on a non-stop flight from
Delhi to Washington from July 7,
2017, connecting both the capitals
of India and the USA. Washington
will be the airline fifth non-stop
destination in the USA following New
York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Chicago (ORD)
and San Francisco (SFO).
The non-stop flight will not only
provide convenient connections to
Indians based in the Pacific
Northwest region, but will also
further enhance the diplomatic
relations between the two countries.
The direct flight will take
approximately 15 hours and 30 mins
to reach Washington from Delhi. |
