Welcome
to another edition of "Creatively Yours"
the newsletter from Creative Travel India
Dear Industry
Colleagues :
September had its shares of ups and
downs. A few bomb attacks took place that I know did shake up
our partners overseas, but we are a resilient country and a
strong people. These events are nothing new to us in India and
unfortunately neither to the world any longer. At Creative,
Guest safety will always come above all else, but let me
assure you - India is a safe destination for travelers to
visit. We have a tradition of hospitality and visitors have
never been made to feel any hostility at any point. That is
what makes India special.
The global recession still worries us. Things seems to be
going from bad to worse. I know many of us in the Indian
industry have been talking amongst ourselves on what we need
to do and we are pressing the hotels to see if price
corrections are in order. We have also been feeling the
effects of the global economic slowdown and are facing a
growing inflationary spiral. Dropping prices is not a
fix-it-all pill but we cannot ignore the signals and affects a
positive price correction would have on our marketability as a
destination.
We would be interested in knowing what you think and what your projections are for
the coming year. A mail with your
thoughts would be helpful for us to develop products and
programs that can help all of us beat recession blues.
We
at Creative Travel and our
specialist brands - "Signature Tours", the luxury travel specialist
and "Plan it!", the finest conference management team in India are
proud to offer the best of India and her neighboring countries to the
discerning traveler. With a 30 year award winning history behind us, we
look forward to the opportunity of showing you what true destination
management is all about.
To read more about us, you
can download a copy of our company profile at - http://www.travel2india.com/who-we-are.htm
We appreciate the support our
partners all over the world have shown us. It is with your partnership
that Creative is where it is today. For those of you with whom we have
not had the pleasure of working with, all I can say is try us and see
the Creative magic for yourself.
Through "Creatively Yours" we
hope to keep you informed on the latest news in Team Creative and the
destination. We hope you find this to be useful.
Have a Creative Day !

Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October (Thursday)
Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday celebrated in India to mark the
occasion of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation". It
is celebrated on October 2, every year. It is one of the three official
declared National Holidays of India. The day is marked by prayer services
and tributes all over India, especially at Raj Ghat, Gandhi's memorial in
New Delhi where he was cremated. Popular celebration includes prayer
meetings and commemorative ceremonies in different cities. The United
Nations General Assembly announced on 15 June, 2007 that it adopted a
resolution which declared that October 2 will be celebrated as the
International Day of Non-Violence. |

Dussehra, 9th October (Thursday)
Dussehra symbolises the triumph of good over evil. This Hindu festival is
celebrated all over India to mark the victory of Rama over Ravana, the
great demon and king of Lankan, who had abducted his wife, Sita. In north
India the Dussehra celebration includes the Ram-Lila that consists of
plays, recitations and music that recall the life of the legendary hero,
Rama. The Ram-Lila is held during the nine days preceding Dussehra. On the
tenth day, elaborate processions lead to the Ram-Lila grounds where
immense cracker-stuffed effigies of the demon Ravana and his son and
brother - Meghnath and Kumbhakarna explode to the cheers of thousands of
spectators. |

Diwali, 28th October (Tuesday)
Diwali, or Deepavali, perhaps the best-known Hindu festival, marks the end
of the season that opens with Dussehra. Diwali is celebrated throughout
India. Diwali is called the
"festival of lights", and the name itself means an array of lamps (Deep -
Lamp, Vali - Array). Indeed, illumination is characteristic of Diwali. The
array of lamps are symbolic of welcoming Lord Rama back to Ayodhya after
his 14 years of exile, and the common practice is to light small oil
lamps, diyas, and place them around the house. If there is one occasion
that is full of joy and jubilation for all, it is Diwali. |

India scores over Thailand, Malaysia in
foreign tourists spend
Foreign tourists spend more time and money in India than its competing
destinations like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Forex
earnings of other Asian destinations (barring China) from tourists are
lower than that of India even as India has been able to attract fewer
number of tourists, according to tourism ministry data. In 2007, around 5
million tourists arrived in India and spent nearly $11 billion, while
Malaysia and Singapore could attract 20.2 million and 10.2 million
foreigners respectively. Their foreign exchange earnings were $10.1
billion and $9.16 billion respectively, says an official data. “We have
always promoted the country as a destination of long stay. Foreign
tourists, on an average, stay for 14-17 days in India as against 5-7 days
in neighbouring countries,” a senior official in the tourism ministry
said. India attracts the highest number of tourists from countries like
the US, the UK, Bangladesh, Canada and France. |

Rajasthan to promote Bandit Tourism
Rajasthan has embarked on an innovative concept of tapping into the
untouched bandit-prone areas of the state, such as the Chambal Valley and
use the services of ex-bandits as local guides in and around the place.

through police records to work out an agreement with them. According to
