Welcome to another edition of "Creatively Yours"
the newsletter from Creative Travel India

Dear Industry Colleagues:

Here is another edition of the award winning "Creatively Yours".

First, we are sharing a great achievement for our team. In a glittering ceremony in Bangkok on October 7, Creative Travel was named Best Travel Agency in India at the 21st TTG Travel Awards. The fact that this award was a peer evaluation makes it super special. Honestly speaking, we didn't even know people were nominating us and to be informed that we won, truly put us over the moon. For over 33 years we have delighted our partners all over the world by showing their clients a level of service matched by few in the Indian sub-continent. We are very proud of what we do. Backed by a team of over 130 professionals, the Kohlis and Creative Travel have earned a reputation for being amongst India's most quality conscious travel companies. We are proud of our history and the future it gives us.

The Commonwealth games are also over. The nay-sayers were dramatically routed. All those who said the Commonwealth games would be a disaster and would be fought with problems are now eating humble pie. For two weeks Delhi showed the world what a magnificent host it would. See snippets of the opening ceremony at - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVu-tXxdvQo

The legacy of the games leaves us with a superb airport, smooth roads and a world class metro system, all that will add to the experience a traveler will have in India. Any of you who have been to Delhi before September will be very pleasantly surprised on your next visit.

The season is progressing very well and the mood in the market is very positive. Hotel occupancies are showing positive growth trends.

Our product development team is busy creating different tours for all our partners all over the world. If you would like to see how can we add some magic to what you do, let us know. We after all take pride in our ability to make a trip to the Indian sub-continent something very different.

Have a Creative Day - Rajeev

Special Feature of the month......

  Delhi by Cycle
Medieval Delhi is showcased by its monument while its modern history is less noticeable in New Delhi. We invite you to explore India’s modern history with a morning cycle tour through the British built portion named ‘Raj tour’. It is a breath-taking ride starting from the narrow labyrinthine back-lanes of Old Delhi, passing through quaint old ‘socialist-style’ quarters of government employees and almost magically landing in the midst of a spectacular view of the Presidential Palace and India Gate encircled by spotless clean, tree-lined wide roads.. Soaked in history and politics and finished with the mouth-watering taste of a traditional north Indian Breakfast at the famous Bengali Market – this morning ride is truly special!

Festival Alert......

  Deepavali or Diwali
November 5, 2010

Deepavali or Diwali is also popularly known as the Festival of Lights and is an official holiday in India. The word Deepavali literally translates as a row of lamps in Sanskrit and marks a victory over evil. In most parts of the country, it is a homecoming celebration to greet victorious Lord Rama’s return from Lanka, in Bengal Goddess Kali is worshiped as the vanquisher of demon Mahishasur. A universal association with Laxmi the goddess of wealth and prosperity is almost everywhere. The day is spent in anticipation of the evening Puja or prayer rituals after which small clay lamps (or Deep in Sanskrit) are filled with clarified butter oil are lighted and the entire house is lit up by these lamps, the modern generation also uses fairy lights & other electric devices to light up the night. Everyone wears new clothes and visit family and friends. Later everyone assembles with friends and neighbors to burst crackers. Many business men close their ledgers and start fresh ones on Diwali, gambling is also considered auspicious though only among family & friends. Newly wed couples get extra attention as the new lady in the house is considered to be a spiritual representation of the goddess Laxmi. Though celebrated all over India, Udaipur has the most spectacular views of the celebrations reflected on the lake, followed closely by Jaipur and Delhi.

Creative Travel will be closed on November 5, 2010 for the festival of lights.

Delhi promised, Delhi delivered - Common Wealth Games
Delhi promised to deliver world class Games and Delhi delivered, there was nothing better to showcase the success of the XIX Commonwealth Games than a grand Closing Ceremony. A dazzling laser show and a musical extravaganza marked the finale of the Games, the biggest sporting event hosted by India which crowned itself with sporting glory by winning an unprecedented 101 medals.

Skies over the national capital Delhi lit with multi-color laser beams and fireworks as part of 160-minute closing ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium filled to the capacity of 60,000 cheering sports lovers. The Ceremony reminded that some 7000 athletes from 71 countries had sportingly competed for 826 medals of which India won 101, including 38 gold, its highest ever, to be the second in the tally behind Australia with a total of 177.
Prince Edward, vice-patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation, formally declared the XIX edition closed amid thunderous cheers from the audience. The ceremonial Flag handover segment began with Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dikshit saying, "In a few moments, the ceremonial Flag will be entrusted to your care so that in due time you deliver it to Glasgow." Official representative of the 2014 host city, Robert Winter, who is the Lord Provost of Glasgow, said, "This duty I willingly undertake to fulfill," as the Games flag was lowered with an Army band in the background.

Scottish performers soon took the centre-stage proudly showcasing their country's spirit, culture and heritage in a 10-minute Glasgow segment. The performers began with a lone piper as the spotlight soon shifted to a giant structure that inflated and the Clyde Arc Bridge with the Armadillo and River Clyde flowing underneath was created, leaving all mesmerized.

It was a fitting tribute to the spirit of Delhi which overcame all pre-Games challenges and showcased that India has arrived.
