Welcome
to another edition of "Creatively Yours", the newsletter from Creative
Travel India Dear Industry Colleagues : February was a quiet season for us in India. The season is wrapping up and now we are getting ready for summer. I do however want to highlight here a situation we have at Delhi's airport. Update on Delhi Airport
Delhi's Indira Gandhi
International Airport is undergoing a major transformation to make it a
world class airport by 2010 when Delhi hosts the Commonwealth games.
The airport was privatized last year and the new operators are working
around the clock to upgrade the existing terminals. There is a
considerable amount of work going on and unfortunately that is
disrupting operations, especially in the international departures terminal. Please
advise your clients that check-in times are taking longer than normal
as are the time taken to clear immigration and security. This will last
for another few months. We are going to be taking all clients to the
airport earlier than normal to compensate for these delays. We would
encourage you to include a note of the airport renovation in your
documentation to your clients. You can read more about the project at -
http://www.newdelhiairport.in/
If you would like to explore how we can
help you make India a special destination to sell this summer, let us
know. We have some amazing deals from our partners like the Taj group
and Oberoi hotels and more. |

We at Creative track guest feedback very carefully. Each evaluation form gives us an insight on our operations and allows us to constantly refine our service delivery process. Now and then we get a few letters that brighten up our days. These are some of them : Friday, February 22, 2008 From - Alan Pountney To - Krishan Dogra Hi Krishan, We're back home now, having had the most wonderful time in India and it gives me real pleasure to tell you what wonderful service we received from you and all your staff. I cannot tell you how glad I am that we took the decison to take your offer of the cars and drivers - people like ourselves (who had never been to India) simply can have no idea of the difficulties involved in getting around, catching trains, finding the way....... The drivers were first rate - not only that but pleasant and informed company too. Our greetings please to Ashok and Harmish in particular, they really made our holiday and everything ran frankly like clockwork. Not only on time: but with charm as well. The guides also were fine - having a good knowledge of their particular specialities, expressed on each occassion in good English . In short: we cannot praise your services and your company highly enough and really do look forward to coming again. Lastly, please feel very free to use this e mail as a reference to any new clients if it is useful to you. Feel free also to give them our e mail address - we would be more than delighted to offer a strong reference. With best wishes Alan and Daniela Pountney UK |

Nepal Nepal to rename Everest Airport after Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay Nepal's Cabinet has formally agreed to rename the only airport in the Mount Everest region Tenzing-Hillary after the first men to scale the world's highest peak more than five decades ago. The Cabinet decided that the airport would be named after Sir Edmund Hillary, who died last month aged 88, and his climbing partner Tenzing Norgay. Hillary and Tenzing, a Sherpa, reached the 8,850-meter (29,035-foot) summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. Lukla airport, situated at 2,800 meters (9,200 feet), serves as the gateway for thousands of trekkers and mountaineers who visit Everest every year. The Sherpa community reveres Hillary, not just for his landmark climb but also for founding the Himalayan Trust, which has built 27 schools, two hospitals and 12 clinics around Mount Everest. Thousands of people, mainly Sherpas, have benefited from the trust's projects. International |

Myanmar lures tourists with reopening of ancient palace In an attempt to entice tourists to the military-ruled country, Myanmar's Ministry of Culture has reopened the Thiri Zeya Bumi Bagan Golden Palace. The palace, whose reconstruction began several years ago, is one of the most impressive remnants of the ancient city of Bagan, which flourished as a Buddhist center from the 11th to the 13th centuries. The site spreads across 80 kilometers and encompasses over 2,000 ruins. Myanmar hopes that the reopening will inject a much-needed boost to the country's tourism, which took a heavy hit after the violence that erupted following last fall's pro-democracy rallies. |

Hotel Sigiriya first Hotel in Sri Lanka to calculate
Carbon Foot Print Hotel Sigiriya situated in close proximity to the world heritage site ‘Sigiriya’ with a full frontal view of the historic rock from its swimming pool has been a popular location for both local and foreign guests since its inception 34 years ago. Placed in an eight acre garden of trees the hotel has adopted green practices for over ten years and was recently revamped. During the period of nearly two years taken for refurbishing, the hotel staff from accountants to chefs attended intensive training programmes on environment and best eco friendly conservation practices. A professional conservation biologist and environmental management consultant were engaged in programmes to familiarize the hotel staff on the flora and fauna of the area, and examined how they could make their methods of operation most environmentally friendly which has resulted in hotel Sigiriya leading the way in mitigating the effect of its carbon foot print and being the first hotel in Sri Lanka to calculate its carbon foot print. |
