Welcome
to another edition of "Creatively Yours"
the newsletter from Creative Travel India
Dear Industry Colleagues :
January 2009....... Happy New year. We in the Creative family
wish all of you much happiness and success in the year to
come.
Business looks bleak over the next few months...The last time
a global recession happened was in 1929, so I think few of us
really know how to react and what to do. We on our part in
India have taken an initiative to declare 2009 as a "Visit
India 2009" year. Read more about this below.
We are also seeing more and more
requests from different parts of the world come in for
reduction of rates. We as a destination totally appreciate the
need for a price correction. We understand the pain the
western economies are going through. Having said this, one
does need to understand that even in this bleak economic
period, the Indian economy will still grow at a rate of over
5%, which is surpassed only by China, who is marginally more.
Hotels in India do not rely solely on foreign incoming
travelers and our domestic base is substantial. This makes the
case for price reductions a hard one. Having said this, I
think our hotels do realize that in the interest of the
destination and business in the long run, we do meet the
aspirations of our global partners. So as an industry we are
doing our best to help alleviate the situation.
We at Creative Travel and our specialist brands - "Signature
Tours", the luxury travel specialist and "Plan it!", the
finest conference management team in India are proud to offer
the best of India and her neighboring countries to the
discerning traveler. With a 31 year award winning history
behind us, we look forward to the opportunity of showing you
what true destination management is all about.
To read more about us, you
can download a copy of our company profile at - http://www.travel2india.com/who-we-are.htm
We appreciate the support our
partners all over the world have shown us. It is with your partnership
that Creative is where it is today. For those of you with whom we have
not had the pleasure of working with, all I can say is try us and see
the Creative magic for yourself.
Through "Creatively Yours" we
hope to keep you informed on the latest news in Team Creative and the
destination. We hope you find this to be useful.
Have a Creative Day !

Creative Travel's Annual Chaat Party
Every year, on the second Saturday of January, we
have our famous "Chaat Party". This is when we call our friends from the
hotels and airlines just to say thank you over an afternoon of mouth
watering feast. It is also an opportunity for our team to meet the people
they speak to on the phones throughout the year. After all, its good to
put a face behind a name. This year we had over 500 guests. It seems the
popularity of the party keeps on growing every year.
For those unfamiliar with the Indian passion that is "Chaat", here
is a link to read up on it -

From - Charles Barton
To - Creative Travel
Hello Creative Travel,
The tour code is 2008/10/0971 for Charles and Anne Barton, Market
Harborough, England.
I thought I would just let you know that we were delighted with your
travel arrangements which one has to say was probably were not the easiest
to arrange, particularly as I forgot to mention about the return flight
back to England.
Our charity work in Kathmandu and West Bengal had been a very busy time
with many commitments in not the most comfortable conditions. So the last
part of our travels most certainly made up for what was lacking in
‘western’ comforts.
A special mention has to be made about the Lucknow part of the trip. To
meet our guide Susmit Anand at the hotel and for him to pull out of his
pocket the picture of my wife’s grand father’s grave was just wonderful.
But, his enthusiasm and commitment and interest was really appreciated.
Whether he told you or not, but we traced the entry in the register of
deaths with a local Faisabad minister. Although the minister of the church
told us the burial ground had not been maintained and that it would be
almost impossible to find the grave as many had been damaged and destroyed
over many years we insisted in going. Us, the Minister and his wife and
Sus started to search amongst the bushes and trees. It was Sus who actually
found the grave, an emotional and successful time. So thank you for
passing on the picture and a big thanks to your committed guide.
Having us met at each point on such a busy schedule was excellent and a
special mention to S P Babber (Bob) for putting up with us and attending
to all our needs..
As a couple who do not often use packaged holidays for our first glimpse
at India and in particular a special part of the country then we were
absolutely delighted.
Many thanks to all your staff.
Regards
Charles and Anne Barton

Nature Trail developed at President's
estate
In the political nerve centre of the country, a small yet serene green
patch of about 75 acres in the President's estate here will now provide a
"Nature Trail" for visitors to explore the rich flora and fauna. Developed
for over last three months, the 1.75- kilometers walk in the wilderness is
dotted with sites of butterflies, birds, animals like jackals, mongoose
and even snakes, a rarity in a concrete jungle. Unlike Mughal Gardens
which is a chief attraction for tourists at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the
new patch was a neglected piece of land until recently on the western
side. "This piece of habitat is ecologically diverse and is different from
the rest of managed landscapes of the Rashtrapati Bhavan," R S Tomar,
gardening expert who is handling the sprawling lawns of the estate for
last three decades. The trail will open on Saturdays and at present people
in groups of ten can take the tour after getting prior permission from the
authorities at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. |

to complete the restoration work at Sri Shwethambar Jain Tirth temple near
Kolanpak village, about 100 kms from Hyderabad. The temple is one of the
top ten Jain pilgrim centers in the world. Out of the total 20 acres of
land, the main temple stands on one acre. The remaining land houses a

India launches
one more royal tourist train
Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, a regal train chugging across the land of
maharajas in western, on Sunday started its maiden journey, with the
government promising to launch similar services in more states. The luxury
train is a joint venture by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation
and the Indian Railways. It will provide an alternative to the Palace on
Wheels, India's first luxury train, which is already booked till 2010. The
seven-day sojourn on the Royal Rajasthan train promises to be a heady mix
of Rajasthan's pristine historic experience. With a carrying capacity of
82 people, the train will have 13 deluxe saloons and one super deluxe
saloon, four service cars and two restaurant bars. A top-class spa and
wi-fi facilities are also in the offing. The itinerary of the train will
be the same as the Palace on Wheels: it would leave Delhi and start on its

Capital's vintage auto-museum on global map
Pro Bono Publico, one of the country's few vintage and classic vehicle
museums, home to more than 70 old cars made international news recently
when one of the cars, a Cadillac Coup de Ville - series 62 - manufactured
in 1952, won the prestigious Cartier 'Travel with Style' Concours
d'Elegance award in November. Located in Mehrauli just an hour's ride from
the heart of the capital, this museum is owned by Delhi-based automobile
collector and lawyer Diljeet Titus. The cars in the museum include a
series of vintage Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Austins, Mercedes,
Jaguar, an ancient Dodge, Pacards, a vintage Studebaker, an Alpha Romeo, a
Pierce Arrow and a rare Belgian Minerva. The earliest cars date back to
the 1930s when vehicles were big and had started taking aerodynamic shapes
and offered less wind resistance, barring exceptions like a 1918 granny -
a Woslely doctor's coupe with seats for two and Mercedes Roadster with
rumble seats. The newer collection of classic models belongs to the
sixties and the seventies with sleek space-age rocket-shaped bodies -
mostly Chevrolets immortalised by chases in old Bollywood and Hollywood
hits. The pride of the museum is a yellow Cadillac, which stole the
post-war classic car show in Mumbai. It belonged to the erstwhile Raja of
Tehri Garhwal in Uttarkhand. |

Raj-era mills revived in Dehradun
Mill Lane in Garhi Cantonment can once again live up to its name.
Uttarakhand Governor B L Joshi on Tuesday inaugurated three renovated Raj-era
water mills along it which had been shut for the past six decades. It was
around 1845 that the British constructed a canal on the Tons River for
irrigation and built three mills on it. By the time of Independence these
mills had gradually become defunct and become prey to encroachment. Last
year the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO),
an organisation working on revival of traditional water resources, took
the mills on lease from the state Government and decided to revive them at
a cost of Rs 10 lakh. HESCO chief Anil Joshi said, “We just made use of
modern technology to upgrade the defunct mills and make them functional
again. The turbines of the defunct mills were changed and the pulleys were
re-aligned.” While the mills will once again make flour, a new bakery and
restaurant attached to it will sell cake and pastries. The restaurant will
use the 5 KW of power generated by the mills. |

Kalpitiya, a new
unique tourism destination in South Asia
Kalpitiya a stretch of land 150 kilometres North of Colombo is skirted by
sea on one side and lagoon on the other. There are many islands - small
and large formed within both sea and lagoon. Most of these, especially the
ones by the lagoon, are covered with green mangroves. Sri Lanka Tourism
has launched an exciting tourism development project based in Kalpitiya in
a bid to place Sri Lanka as one the most sought after destinations in
South Asia at the end of the next decade. Fourteen unspoilt islands
basking in the sun rimmed by the blue waters of the Indian Ocean and wide
sandy beaches await to be discovered by the discerning visitors in all its
glory. There about 22 species of core mangroves found in Sri Lanka. In
addition, these islands and other wetlands around have been habitats for
local and migratory birds of different species during the season of
November and March each year. Another specialty that the visitor will
enjoy is the marine sanctuary extended to about 307 sq km. This includes
in addition to tropical exotic fish, the coral formations found in shallow
waters in varied colours and forms. Another salient feature for the
connoisseur of nature in Kalpitiya is the dolphins, who can be spotted
without sailing into deep seas. |

Bangladesh gets its own Taj Mahal
There will be a new tourist attraction in Bangladesh – a replica Taj Mahal.
A Bangladeshi film-maker Ahsanullah Moni has built a replica of the Taj
Mahal that cost $58 million. Located 30 km (20 miles) from the capital
Dhaka, the life-size structure took five years to construct. Moni first
visited the original Taj Mahal in 1980 and made six more trips as he
followed his dream to replicate it. He hired specialist architects,
sending them to India to study the real Taj Mahal, and also brought six
Indian technicians to help replicate the seventh wonder of the world. Moni
imported marble and granite from Italy, diamonds from Belgium and used 160
kilogrammes (353 pounds) of bronze for the dome. |

Tibet aims to attract three million
tourists this year
Tibet Autonomous Region aims to host three million
tourists this year, the regional bureau said. It received an estimated 2.2
million tourist arrivals in 2008. Seriously affected by the March 14 riot,
Sichuan earthquake and tremors in the region, Tibet's tourism experienced
a recession but it has been reviving, said Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the
regional government. The riot caused a 69-percent slump in the number of
tourists and a 72-percent slump in revenue in the first half of 2008. In
2007, the region attracted a record high of four million tourists, reaping
more 4.8 billion yuan (about 702 million U.S. dollars). The region has cut
travel and hotel costs in hope of luring domestic and international
sightseers. In the regional capital Lhasa, many hotels have taken 20 to 70
percent off their room rates, while air tickets from Beijing to Lhasa are
now available at 70 percent or 80 percent of the original fare. |
