  Marriott opens suite hotel in Pune
   
  Marriott International has announced the opening of its fifth hotel in the Indian city of Pune.

The new Pune Marriott Suites is located in the Koregaon Park area of the Maharashtra city. It offers 199 suites designed for long-stay guests, plus two restaurants, a lounge, fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool and wellness centre.
“The opening of Pune Marriott Suites takes our portfolio to 33 hotels in India. This hotel further demonstrates our commitment to strengthen our relationship in Pune with the ownership, Panchshil Reality. It will be exciting as the team to position this all-suites hotel as one of the top in class luxury destinations in the city,” said Neeraj Govil, Marriott International’s vice president for South Asia.

The new hotel is located close to Pune Airport and the city’s main business and IT hubs, meaning it is likely to appeal to business travellers.

  Carlson Rezidor takes control of Country Inns & Suites in India
   
  Hotel group ends joint venture to take full ownership of midscale brand CDMS – a holding company set up to manage the Country Inns & Suites brand in India – was previously controlled in partnership with Chanakya Hotels. Following the new agreement, the Country Inns & Suites brand in India will now be managed by Carlson Hotels South Asia, the Indian affiliate of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. The acquisition also includes four Radisson Blu hotels managed in India by CDMS.

“Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has been committed to India for 25 years, with our initial growth accelerated due to the quality of our partners and strength of our brands,” said Thorsten Kirschke, Carlson Rezidor’s president for Asia Pacific.

“Our joint venture with Chanakya Hotels… positioned Country Inns & Suites by Carlson as a leading midscale hotel brand in India. This acquisition, resulting in the full ownership of CDMS, is a strategic move to further strengthen our position as the leading international hotel operator in India. We aim to have 170 hotels in operation and under development by 2020 in the country.”

India is the second largest market for the Country Inns & Suites brand, following the US, with 24 hotels currently operating and 11 more in various stages of development. In total, Carlson Rezidor now has 117 properties either operating or under development in India, covering 60 cities and 16 state capitals.

  juSTa opens Design Hotel in Chennai
   
  Design Hotel by jüSTa, Chennai, an exclusive boutique hotel comprising of luxury rooms in four distinct styles of modern architecture infused with traditional Tamil Nadu architecture or cultural impacts. Each style is distinct and has its own story to tell.

The 26 room hotel is located in Palladium Mall at Phoenix Market City. Each room, spread across 36.23 square metres, is equipped with modern amenities and services.

The Design Hotel offers complimentary wi-fi, electronic safe, restaurant, swimming pool, fitness centre and spa. Other facilities provided by the four-star hotel include conference room and media hub. The property is in the close proximity of the airport, Chennai Trade Centre and OMR.

  A New Safari Lodge to Open in Sri Lanka
   
  The Sri Lankan family behind the Dilmah Tea brand and Resplendent Ceylon group of hotels will open a luxurious tented wildlife camp in December 2016. The Wild Coast Tented Lodge will be situated on a pristine beach on the edge of Sri Lanka’s spectacular Yala National Park, and is set to become a leading destination for wildlife enthusiasts.

The Wild Coast Tented Lodge will comprise 28 vaulted tented suites, each offering the same level of comfort as a traditional luxury hotel, but with the excitement of a safari-style wilderness experience. Each air conditioned suite will measure a generous 55sqm and will be furnished to the highest specifications, including sumptuous outdoor bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs, in-room massage areas and private decks.

Ideal for couples and honeymooners, the four secluded beach-facing suites will have their own plunge pools; while a further 16 suites will be dotted around five watering holes designed to attract a variety of birdlife and amphibians. The Family Cluster will be home to eight sizeable tents and a play area equipped with slides, swings and rope ladders. Each of the family suites will come with an adjoining twin-bedded children’s ‘Urchin Tent’ so that both adults and children can have their privacy.

A bamboo-clad bar and restaurant will serve up creative daily changing menus of Sri Lankan cuisine, whilst a delicious “picnic tea” will form part of the safari drive experience. The Ayurvedic Spa will offer a unique range of natural Sri Lankan treatments using local herbs and plants. Other facilities will include a steam bath, an oil massage area, a yoga pavilion and a relaxation deck. The library area will double up as an educational centre where guests can learn about the wildlife in the park and watch documentaries accompanied by explanations from the lodge’s guides.

Exceptional safari and educational experiences will allow guests the chance to immerse themselves in a restored and rejuvenated part of the wilderness that is home to some of the richest biodiversity in Sri Lanka and one of the highest leopard population densities in the world. The active souls can also head to the onsite dive centre, where they can discover the diverse world that lies beneath Sri Lanka’s waters, including the haunting wrecks of many Portuguese treasure-galleons.
