Direct flight
between India
and Laos soon |

To enhance
people to people
contact between
two South East
Asian
neighbours,
India and Laos
will soon have a
direct flight
connectivity as
part the
initiatives to
increase
cultural
exchange and
bilateral trade
between two
countries.
“Direct flight
connectivity
between the two
countries is in
final stage of
approval and
very soon India
and Laos will
have direct
flight,” Ravi
Shankar Aisola,
Ambassador of
India, Lao PDR
said.
Addressing a
joint press
conference along
with his Lao
counterparthere,
Mr Aisola said
that process set
out by Prime
Minister
Narendra during
his visit to the
landlocked tiny
country is
taking shape and
very soon we
will have direct
flight between
the two
countries.
While Southan
Sakonhninhom,
Ambassador of
Lao PDR said
that Indian
businesses
houses could use
Laos as gateway
for gaining
access to the
ASEAN markets.
He also urged
Indian companies
to increase
investment in
areas of power,
tourism and
agriculture in
the country.
The Ambassador
identified
agriculture,
defence, ICT,
culture,
education,
health, trade
and investment
promotion,
mining as
priority areas
of cooperation
between the two
countries that
would give
further impetus
to bilateral
relations. Since
Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s
visit to Laos, a
number of new
initiatives were
taken to promote
people-to-people
contacts,
training and
scholarship
opportunities
and expansion of
private sector
participation in
trade and
investment, as
well as in
health and
education.
Landlocked Laos
is surrounded on
three sides by
China, Vietnam
and
Cambodia.India’s
investment to
the country is
around 150
millon dollar
way beyond
China’s six
billion dollar. |

Air India to
connect
Ahmedabad &
London from
August 15 |

Speaking at the
Indo-American
Chamber of
Commerce (IACC)
Conference
recently,
Ashwani Lohani,
CMD, Air India
Ltd said that
air travel is
the key to
increase visitor
arrivals between
countries, and
therefore from
August 15, the
flag carrier
will be
inaugurating
thrice-a-week
flights
connecting
Ahmedabad and
London. By May
2017, Air India
also aims to
launch a fifth
air route
between India
and the United
States of
America (USA).
On all flights
from India to
USA, the carrier
has witnessed
80% load factor
last year, he
stated.
“There is a
demand to
directly connect
Delhi or Mumbai
to Los Angeles
and also to
Atlanta. We are
yet to finalise
the same. Post
Delhi-San
Francisco
flight, Air
India is also
looking at the
possibility of
commencing
flights from
Bengaluru to San
Francisco in the
coming time.
Connection to
Washington has
been postponed
due to the
shortage of
aircraft. the
same could
commence in
2017-18,” he
added.
He also informed
that as of now
Air India is
providing 8.5
lakh seats to
travel to the
U.S. witnessing
82-83% load
factor. This
market can
further grow to
12 lakh by next
year. The
company also
plans to launch
new flights
between US and
Hyderabad. |

Vistara adds
Port Blair to

announced the
addition of Port
Blair, Andaman &
Nicobar Islands,
as its 18th
destination,
effective
September 30,
2016. Port Blair
will be served
daily from
Kolkata and from
New Delhi (same
aircraft service
via Kolkata).
With this new
flight,
frequency
between Delhi
and Kolkata will
also increase to
three flights
daily. Twice
daily service to
Kolkata from
Delhi had
commenced on
June 10 this
year, and has
seen very high
demand for
Vistara’s
product.
The new flights
are open for
booking from
today through
all channels,
including the
airline’s
website
www.airvistara.com,
its mobile apps
on iOS and
Android, airport
ticket offices,
OTAs, and travel
agents. For a
limited period,
Vistara is
offering special
introductory
one-way fares
between to Port
Blair, starting
at INR 5500 from
Kolkata and INR
9850 from Delhi
in Economy Class
(taxes and fees
extra).

Coimbatore-based
Air Carnival
commences
operations |

Low cost carrier
Air Carnival
today launched
operations with
its maiden
flight from
Coimbatore to
Chennai. The
airline plans to
focus on short
haul services
with its
ATR72-500
aircraft. The
promoters are
infusing around
$12 million to
take three
aircraft on
lease. The
carrier charged
Re 1 for the
first flight. It
plans to keep
the tariff at Rs
999 for the
first three
months.
The first flight
took off from
Coimbatore
Airport at 7.30
a.m. and landed
at Chennai
airport around 9
a.m. On the
first day, its
flight route is
Coimbatore-Chennai-Madurai-Chennai-Coimbatore.The
airline will
have daily
service for 10
sectors
including 3
daily flights
from Chennai to
Coimbatore (up
and down) and
two daily
flights from
Chennai to
Madurai (up and
down).
The 70-seater
aircraft are
more economical
for short haul
services and
they are proven
one in India,
said Manish
Singh, CEO, Air
Carnival. The
promoter CMC
group plans to
infuse around
$12-15 million
(of which $5
million already
invested)
initially, which
will fund to
acquire at least
3-5 aircrafts. |
