3 Indian cities in top 15 wellness destinations list in Asia

Three Indian cities - Jaipur, New Delhi and Mumbai, have been featured in the list of top 15 destinations with the best hotels for wellness across Asia in the first quarter of 2015, according to a survey.

"India, which has its own history of health and wellness traditions, Ayurveda therapies and Yoga, features three times in the top 15 with Jaipur and New Delhi (placed 12th, 86.11%) and Mumbai (15th, 84.73%)," report by a travel search engine 'Wego' across Asia-Pacific and Middle East, showed.

The report described wellness tourism as travelling to seek improved health and well-being through physical and spiritual activities.
"With the increased popularity in Yoga around the world, India's ministry of tourism is currently drafting a policy to promote the exercise in a bid to attract more foreign visitors to experience it in the country from where it originated," Wego chief marketing officer Joachim Holte said.

The Global Spa & Wellness Economy Monitor values wellness tourism at $3.4 trillion, a number that is expected to continue to grow exponentially each year.
Wellness tourism is no longer a niche industry and has made a solid impact on global tourism overall, he said.

"Some destinations automatically imply relaxation and recharge by their very nature and reputation, so it's no surprise that Bali is at the top of the list scoring 88% of positive hotel reviews for wellness," Holte added.
